About the neighborhood: Jackson, Missouri, is a historic city and the county seat of Cape Girardeau County, located in Southeast Missouri along Interstate 55 between St. Louis and Memphis. Established in 1814, Jackson was the first community in the nation to bear the name of President Andrew Jackson. The city was named after Andrew Jackson on August 31, 1819, and was the first town to be named after him. The town was platted in 1815, and the first county courthouse was built in 1818 on Jackson’s public square. By 1818, the town already had a population of 300.
