Kansas City Weekend Happenings Sept. 8 – 10, 2017

It’s starting to feel more and more like fall! The temperatures are starting to drop and us allergy sufferers can tell ragweed is in the air! But with fall comes more than pumpkin spice lattes (pumpkin spice everything for that matter), it is prime festival time – with the weekends being jam packed with stuff to do –

 

56th Annual Greek Festival is this Weekend

Jesse James Festival

When: Friday, Sept. 8th 7pm and Saturday, Sept. 9th 8am, 9:30-11:30am, 7:30pm plus next weekend

Where: Jesse James Park, Kearney, MO

Cost: $20-$30 for the Fun Run & 5K, $10 for the demo derby, and FREE for the kids’ fishing lesson

What: This weekend features a few events for the Jesse James Festival – the teen fundraising dance on Friday night, a 5K walk/run & fun run and kids’ fishing lessons on Saturday morning, and a demolition derby on Saturday night. The majority of the events for the festival will be taking place next weekend.

 

2017 Johnson County Old Settlers Festival

When: Thursday, Sept. 7th 12-10pm, Friday, Sept. 8th 10am-10pm, Saturday, Sept. 9th 9am-11pm

Where: Downtown Olathe

Cost: FREE admission

What: A local Johnson County tradition – this classic festival features a carnival, food, games, arts & crafts, live entertainment, and what they claim to be JoCo’s largest parade. Follow the link above to see the full schedule of activities.

 

Art Westport 2017

When: Friday, Sept. 8th 1-9pm, Saturday, Sept. 9th 10am-9pm, Sunday, Sept. 10th 11am-5pm

Where: Westport

Cost: FREE

What: The annual art festival has become a Kansas City tradition and is a favorite among local artists. The three-day event will take place in Historic Westport, providing the perfect backdrop for a “Kansas City” Artists Fair. Top artists from around the Metro will line the streets of Westport showcasing their original art, unique jewelry, fine crafts, live music and much more.

Where: Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church located at 12001 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145

Cost: FREE admission & parking

What: Authentic Greek Food, Delicious Greek Pastries, Live Greek Music, Hellenic Dancing, Imported Greek Souvenirs, Tours of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Presentations about the Greek Orthodox Faith, Greek Orthodox Bookstore. FOOD, FAMILY, FUN!

 

sheKC Experience 2017

When: Friday, Sept. 8th 6-9pm, Saturday, Sept. 9th 10am-5pm, Sunday, Sept. 10th 11am-2pm

Where: Overland Park Convention Center

Cost: GA for 1 day – $10, GA weekend pass – $25, VIP access for Friday 5-6pm plus weekend GA – $40

What: sheKC experience is Kansas City’s first experience-based event featuring three days of FUN, shopping, live music, interactive experiences, workshops, and more!

 

Surfaces: 10 Years of Illumination

When: Friday, Sept. 8th 8:30-10pm

Where: The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Cost: FREE

What: Quixotic will use projection, choreography, and musical composition to honor Bloch Building architect Steven Holl, and shine a new light on this iconic building. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Food trucks will be available starting at 7:30pm.

 

Girls Night Out at The K

When: Friday, Sept. 8th 5:30pm

Where: Kauffman Stadium

Cost: $16-$104 per ticket

What: The event features shopping, tasty treats, plus additional fun like face painters & caricature artists and will take place in the Outfield Experience prior to the Royals vs. Twins game at 7:15 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Heart Association Go Red for Women. Plus, the first 10,000 ladies through the gates will receive a Royals Infinity Scarf.

 

Dippin’ Dogs Swim Party

When: Saturday, Sept. 9th 10am-4pm

Where: The Springs Aquatic Center

Cost: $10 per canine

What: Bring your family pooch for a dip in the pool! Children under 10 and all dogs must be supervised by an adult; limit of 2 dogs per person. Presented in partnership with the NAWS – Northland Animal Welfare Society. Sessions are as follows: 10 a.m.-Noon: Small (under 40 lbs) and Senior Dogs, Noon-2 p.m.: Large Dogs-Session I (40 lbs and over), 2-4 p.m.: Large Dogs-Session II (40 lbs and over).

 

Sprint Family Fun Days: Ultimate Field Day

When: Saturday, Sept. 9th 11am-3pm

Where: Kansas City Power & Light District

Cost: FREE admission with premium activities available with a $5/child wristband

What: Challenge your kids in fun sports games, throw like a pro in the Quarterback Blitz, rush through the Adrenaline Rush Course, meet your favorite team mascots and more! Activities include: live music, face painting, bounce houses, sports games, arts & crafts and more.

 

Fall Wine Walk & Beer Tasting

When: Saturday, Sept. 9th 12-4pm

Where: The Village at Briarcliff

Cost: FREE

What: Grab your friends and come shop our local boutiques while sampling a selection of delicious wines in each store. We’re also currently working with local breweries to offer beer sampling under our rotunda as well! Ten percent of sales from select stores will go toward Feed Northland Kids, an organization focused on addressing weekend nutrition and hunger by providing healthy, kid-friendly foods for school-age children, living in the Northland of Kansas City, MO. Mark your calendars and enjoy some fall favorites: shopping, wine and beer!

 

KC Beer Festival

When: Saturday, Sept. 9th 3-6pm

Where: Kansas City Power & Light District

Cost: GA – $40, VIP – $65 (find what each ticket gets you here)

What: Flying Saucer hosts the 9th Annual KC Beer Fest. Taste more than 200 hand-picked craft beers from around the world while enjoying live music, food trucks & and more!

 

Crossroads Music Fest 2017

When: Saturday, Sept. 9th 6pm-2am

Where: Crossroads District

Cost: GA $20 in advance ($25 at the door), VIP $75 in advance ($90 at the door)

What: Music festival highlighting some great local music spread across 9 stages along 3 blocks of KC’s Crossroads District. 5 of those 9 stages are all age venues with kids 12 & under getting in for free. There will also be day parties and pop-up shops at the Crossroads leading up to 6pm.

 

Dance in the Park 2017

When: Saturday, Sept. 9th 6:30pm-9pm

Where: Roanoke Park

Cost: FREE

What: Dance in the Park will once again present a thrilling evening of fun and excitement with performances by professional dancers of all kinds from the Kansas City vicinity on an outdoor stage in Roanoke Park. Arrive early to participate in the free dance class at 6:30 and to get a good seat. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs, a picnic, and the whole family! But sorry, no pets allowed.
This is a free event, but donations will be gratefully accepted in order to help us continue to provide this unique dance concert!
