Kansas City Weekend Happenings Sept. 29 – Oct. 1, 2017

It’s finally starting to feel like fall, or at least for a few days as the warmer temps keep coming back. There are a lot of festivals and fun events happening this weekend in Kansas City:

Gladfest is the Weekend

Gladfest

When: Friday, Sept. 29th 5-10pm, Saturday, Sept. 30th 10am-10pm, and Sunday, Oct. 1st 7:30am (5K walk/run) & 12-4pm (carnival only)

Where: Gladstone town square, around the City Hall building

Cost: FREE

What: Gladfest is a wonderful fall festival with something for everyone! Don’t miss the Parade on Saturday morning as well as daily entertainment on Linden Square Stage! A Carnival will be open all three days for kids of all ages. The Carnival will offer “All You Can Ride” wristband specials on Friday from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Saturday from Noon to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Sunday from Noon to 4:00 PM for only $23.00. Marketplace Tents will be located just west of Community Center and will offer valuable contacts with local businesses and civic organizations. Larger commercial vendors and the best in food and beverages will be found along 70th Street and N. Holmes.  Arts and Crafts vendors will be located west of City Hall and south of the carnival. Westport Oktoberfest

When: Thursday, Sept. 28th 5-11pm, Friday, Sept. 29th 5-10pm, Saturday, Sept. 30th 10am-11pm, and Sunday, Oct. 1st 9 & 10am (5K for adults at 9 and for kids at 10)

Where: Westport

Cost: FREE

What: Head out to Westport Thursday, September 28 through Sunday, October 1 for German-style food, special beer tappings, stein hoisting competitions, a wiener dog race, live entertainment and a Lederhosen Lap 5K on Sunday!

 

 

American Royal ProRodeo

When: Friday, Sept. 29th at 7:30pm and Saturday, Sept. 30th at 2pm & 7:30pm

Where: American Royal Association – 1701 American Royal Court, Kansas City, MO 64102

Cost: General admission for Friday & Saturday evening is $30, GA for the Saturday matinee is $15

What: It’s the best time you can have in the dirt! Each show is packed with bulls, barrels, mutton bustin’ and mini broncs. Stay late each night with live music after the rodeo in the Pendleton Whisky Tailgate! Dance to Phil Vandel (Friday) and Noe Palma (Saturday) while enjoying a bite from the food truck and playing tailgate games.
 

Vintage Market Days

When: Friday, Sept. 29th 10am-5pm, Saturday, Sept. 30th 10am-5pm, and Sunday, Oct. 1st 10am-4pm

Where: Zona Rosa

Cost: $10 if purchased Friday (gets you access all 3 days), $5 on Saturday or Sunday (gets you admission to both days), kids 12 & under are free

What: Vintage Market Days is an upscale vintage-inspired market featuring original art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, handmade treasures, home décor, outdoor furnishings consumable yummies, seasonal plantings and a little more.

 

 

Paws on the Prairie 5K

When: Saturday, Sept. 30th 9am-1pm

Where: Warriors’ Best Friend Foundation – 10940 NE 104th St., Kansas City, MO 64157

Cost: Unsure, online registration is currently closed but you can still register the day of the race starting at 7:30am

What: This is a great 5K run/walk that will benefit the Warriors’ Best Friend Foundation, a wonderful organization that teams up with the Great Plains SPCA to train homeless dogs to be service animals for our veterans. There will be 3 heats for the race – the first heat starts at 9am and is for participants without dogs, the second heat starts at 10am and will be with dogs, and there is a 1/2 mile fun run for kids that starts at 11:30am. There will also be other activities at this event like face painting, a petting zoo, and even a fun dog agility course for your pup.

 

 

Food Truck Festival

When: Saturday, Sept. 30th 12 – 6pm

Where: Independence Center Shopping Mall

Cost: FREE admission (of course the food isn’t free)

What: Head out to the mall for this fun event that features not only several of KC’s top food trucks but also live music & a DJ, photo station, a beer garden, and inflatables for the kids. Several stores in the mall will also be offering special discounts.

 

 

J. Rieger Co. Doggy Social

When: Saturday, Sept. 30th 12 – 2pm

Where: J. Rieger Co. Distillery – 2700 Guinotte Ave, Kansas City, MO 64120

Cost: $15

What: With your paid admission at the door, you will receive two drink tickets and enjoy an afternoon of J. Rieger cocktails, distillery tours and doggy play time! Betty Rae’s Ice Cream ice cream will be available and offering a free doggy scoop for your pup! Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters coffee and non-alcoholic beverages available. A portion of ticket sales and 15% retail merchandise sales will be donated to KC Pet Project. For those hungry for lunch, you can walk right across the street to Local Pig.
