Kansas City Weekend Happenings Oct. 6 – 8, 2017

Fall is in full swing! Which means the fall festivals just keep coming! There are a lot of great events happening this weekend in Kansas City:

Weston Applefest is this Weekend

Summit Art Festival

When: Friday, Oct. 6th 4-8pm, Saturday, Oct. 7th 10am-8pm, and Sunday, Oct. 8th 12-4pm

Where: Downtown Lee’s Summit

Cost: FREE

What: Summit Art Festival is a free, outdoor, 3-day festival of fine arts that will feature over 90 local, regional and national artists. Visitors will enjoy a unique blend of art and music in historic Downtown Lee’s Summit. In addition, the festival will include Lee’s Summit R7 Student Art Pavilion, a “Summit Art” Pavilion, and fabulous local music, Kids Zone offering hands-on children’s art activities. There will be plenty of free parking, food/beverage court and something for the entire family to enjoy.

19th Annual Dia de los Muertos Exhibit & Celebration

When: Friday, Oct. 6th 6-10pm (Opening Reception) and Saturday, Oct. 7th 1-9pm (Street Festival)

Where: The Mattie Rhodes Art Gallery – 919 W 17th St, Kansas City, Missouri 64108

Cost: FREE

What: This exhibit celebrates the colorful and loving, traditional Mexican Day of the Dead holiday. The Mattie Rhodes Center, which is a nonprofit agency that provides a holistic approach to individual and family well being through social services, behavioral health counseling and the arts, has invited artists, families, school groups and community members to create traditional, contemporary and personal altars and Day of the Dead inspired art work. Go to the opening reception on Friday to see the annual altar exhibit, amazing artwork and enjoy live music, food & drinks! On Saturday, bring the family for a day of FUN! More live entertainment, food trucks, bouncy houses and plenty of local artisan vendors to visit!

 

Weston Applefest

When: Saturday, Oct. 7th 10am-6pm and Sunday, Oct. 8th 11am-5pm

Where: Downtown Weston

Cost: Adult admission – $1 donation, children under 15 get free admission

What: The Applefest celebration in historic downtown Weston is known throughout the Midwest as one of the best fall festivals in Missouri. Visitors to Applefest are encouraged to come early on Saturday morning to enjoy Weston’s hometown parade along Main Street at 10:00 am. The Saturday parade will feature antique tractors, classic cars, fire trucks and bands. There will be over 70 art and craft booths along the downtown Main Street to peruse and you’re also invited to browse the many unique Weston shops during your visit. Fun children’s activities both days are planned in the park with Pony Rides, Face Painting, Straw Bale Maze, Pumpkin Painting, and Agriculture Education Interactive Games and Activities.

 

3rd Annual Barktoberfest

When: Saturday, Oct. 7th 10am-9pm

Where: Shawnee Mission Park’s Theatre in the Park

Cost: FREE

What: This dog-friendly festival features live music brought to you by 99.7 The Point, delicious food, adult beverages, and of course tons of pet events (like wiener dog races, informational speakers, a doggy fashion show competition, and more). There will also be a kids zone with fun activities for your human children.

 

Oktoberfest Live!

When: Saturday, Oct. 7th 2-6pm

Where: Kansas City Live! in the Power & Light District

Cost: $5 cover or Beer Lover tickets – $25, or VIP – $45

What: This 21 & up good time features traditional Oktoberfest contests and games, wiener dog races, beers, great food, prizes, live entertainment and more! The Beer Lovers Ticket is $25 (in advance) and includes admission into the festival beginning at 2 PM, a souvenir plastic beer stein and five 16 oz. draft beers. The VIP Ticket is $45 (in advance) and includes early admission into the festival beginning at Noon, access to the Beer Tasting Tents with unlimited tastings from Noon – 2 PM, fish fry & pretzels from Noon – 4 PM, exclusive access to Leinie’s Shandy bar all day, a souvenir plastic beer stein and five 16 oz. draft beers. Additional tasting tickets will be available for purchase at the event.

 

Linden Square Whiskey Fest

When: Saturday, Oct. 7th 4-9:30pm

Where: Linden Square in downtown Gladstone

Cost: Free admission with Tasting Tickets for sale – $20 for 10 tasting tickets, $30 for 20 tasting tickets, $50 for unlimited tastings

What: This is a great event for all you whiskey lovers out there! There will be whiskey tastings from numerous local and national labels for your sampling pleasure, live music, and food & beverages for purchase.

 

WaterFire Kansas City 2017

When: Saturday, Oct. 7th 7-11pm

Where: Brush Creek at the Country Club Plaza

Cost: FREE

What: Every October, Brush Creek serves as a stage for this visual arts installation that is enhanced by music and dance to create a shared experience for the thousands that attend.
