Bluegrass Music Festival this Weekend

Kansas City Weekend Happenings May 19 – 21, 2017

Although there are some storms & rain in the forecast for this weekend, don’t let that keep you from enjoying all that’s happening in Kansas City this weekend.

There are several events featuring live music this weekend happening in Kansas City.

First up will be Bluegrass In The Bottoms at Knuckleheads Outdoor area on Friday and Saturday. This 2-day music and brews festival will feature bluegrass artists from around the nation on one stage along with brews and food to go along with it. Each night will start at 5:30pm. Tickets for this event (before the Ticketmaster fees) cost $71 for a 2-day ticket and $41 for Friday or Saturday.

Another music centered event this weekend is the 5th Annual Troost Jazz & Soul Experience at Arvest Bank Theatre. This event, hosted Mayor Sly James, will be a fun time for a good cause as it benefits Reconciliation Services! You are in for a fun-filled Friday night featuring unbelievable live Jazz music, including a set by the students of the Lincoln Prep Jazz Band, dancing, drinks, tasty hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, live painting, and a special presentation. It all starts at 7pm and make sure to wear comfortable shoes as this will not be a sit down event. Tickets are $90 and 100% will be going to Reconciliation Services.

If you have a passion for, or even an interest in tattoos, you may enjoy going to the Kansas City Tattoo Convention at the Sheraton at Crown Center this weekend. This convention is not your typical, boring convention –  there will be of course tattooing by artists from all around, special guests – members of tattoo TV shows and previous competitors from Spike TV’s Ink Master, tattoo vendors, and some unique entertainment (along the lines of freak shows, burlesques, and little people wrestling). The convention will be held Friday from 2pm-midnight, Saturday 11am-midnight, and Sunday 11am-8pm. Tickets are only available at the event and cost $20 for one day or $40 for a 3-day pass.

Another fun event happening this weekend is Brew-B-Que Kansas City. A battle of epic, and delicious, proportions will be going down at the Renaissance Fair Grounds this Saturday! From 12-4pm, 10 of KC’s top BBQ food trucks will be serving it up in hopes of being named KC’s Best BBQ Food Truck. And it doesn’t end there – as you might have gathered from the event’s name, brewed beverages will also play a major role in this event – to the tune of unlimited craft beer samples. Unfortunately, the VIP tickets (which included BBQ samples & voting privileges among other perks) are sold out but GA and designated driver tickets are still available for purchase for $35 and $5, respectively.

Also this Saturday is Briarfest 2017 at Briarcliff Village. This free Northland festival celebrates spring with live music, food, beer and fun for the whole family. For access to the beer part, you must purchase a ticket to the beer tent, which gets you a commemorative tasting glass with unlimited tastings; there is also a VIP beer tent which also includes special tappings, snacks, and band meet & greet. Tickets to the GA beer tent are $40, or $35 in advance, and VIP beer tent tickets are $80, $75 in advance – advance tickets can be purchased here.
