It’s going to another beautiful weekend here in Kansas City – perfect for all of your Mother’s Day activities that you may have planned. And there are a lot of great events happening in KC to help you celebrate.
Friday night the Young Friends of Art will be hosting Puppies & Pints with YFA at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. This fundraiser happy hour invites you and your two- and four-legged friends to enjoy some beers on the North Plaza from 6-8pm. Special guests KC Pet Project and Community LINC will also be participating in the event.
It’s race weekend at Kansas Speedway this Friday & Saturday with the Toyota Tundra 250 and the NASCAR Cup Series Go Bowling 400. The Toyota Tundra 250 will be Friday evening with the race starting at 7:30pm; Saturday holds the Go Bowling 400 and it will start 6:30pm – find the schedule here to find out when the parking lots open and when all of the activities (like when you can meet the drivers) are to take place. Tickets can be purchased by following the link above.
If you have any little ones, they might enjoy KC’s Train Day Celebration at the Kansas City Northern Railroad (next to the Line Creek Community Center). This free celebration will feature train rides, activities, and entertainment from 10am-4pm (train rides will continue until 6pm). In addition, Line Creek Ice Arena will be offering 2-for-1 skating from 2-4pm.
Another family-friendly event this weekend is the Sprint Family Fun Days: Carnival Circus at Kansas City Power & Light District. Saturday from 11am – 3pm, enjoy old-fashioned carnival games, an exotic animal petting zoo, bounce houses, arts & crafts, live entertainment by Mr. Stinky Feet, face painting and more! Admission to the event is free but there are some premium activities that do require a $5 wristband.
Hopefully no one forgot that this weekend is Mother’s Day and a great event to help celebrate is Bubbles & Boutiques at The Village at Briarcliff. This shopping and sipping event is a great way to spend some time with your mom, gal pals, or daughter, and it’s for a good cause. 50% of the $10 admission will be donated to Feed Northland Kids and 10% of sales will go to the charity when you mention it to the cashier. The event starts at 11am and goes until 4pm, and the first 100 people will receive a custom wine glass.
Personally, one of the most fun events this weekend will be The Downtown Open at Washington Square Park & throughout downtown on Saturday. This awesomely unique event brings the golf course to downtown KC and combines it with a pub crawl. You will be teeing off from rooftops, pitching from sidewalks and putting on street corners from 1-6pm. No golf carts necessary as every hole is a short walk from the KC Ride Streetcar stops. The tournament will wrap up with an after party starting at 5pm at Washington Square Park where prizes will be given to best score overall, best outfits, longest putt, longest drive and more! Tickets are only $25 to join in on the fun.
Mother’s Day is known for brunchin’ with mom, right? Well how about a little spin on the classic Mother’s Day brunch with Chicken N Pickle’s Mother Truckin’ Brunch this Sunday. First, if you haven’t been to or even heard of Chicken N Pickle, I highly recommend strapping on you tennis shoes and heading down to North Kansas City to partake in this fun activity! The chicken part comes from the restaurant part of the facility where their specialty is rotisserie chicken and pickle is a sport – it’s like a combination of tennis & ping pong played with a ball similar to a wiffle ball – it’s super fun & easy to pick up. They also have a full bar and a neat outdoor space filled with lawn games (they have Battleship that’s bigger than you are) and even a rooftop patio. But back to the event – Sunday from 10am – 2:30pm, Chicken N Pickle will be hosting a Mother’s Day celebration unlike any others where you can bring your favorite lady to enjoy all of what Chicken N Pickle has to offer in addition to 3 food trucks, plus Smirnoff Vodka will be there whipping up some signature cocktails – like specialty coffee drinks spiked with vanilla vodka.
Also Sunday morning is the Tour de Bier 2017. Tour de Bier KC is a point to point bicycle tour of Kansas City’s breweries, historic brewing landmarks and other breweriana. This tour starts at 8am and goes until 1:30pm, but really it will take as long as you want it to depending on how long you stop. There are three routes to choose from, lunch, beer tastings, and live music to enjoy in between riding your bike. Follow the link above to find out what your registration includes and the race routes.
Saturday and Sunday nights the Chippendales will be performing at Ameristar Casino. Now that may be something your mom or wife would enjoy on Mother’s Day! Both shows start at 8pm with doors opening at 7pm, and tickets range from $25-$50.
Coming Up Next Weekend:
5/19-20 – Bluegrass In The Bottoms at Knuckleheads Saloon
5/19-21 – Kansas City Tattoo Convention at the Sheraton at Crown Center
5/19 – 5th Annual Troost Jazz & Soul Experience at Arvest Bank Theatre
