It’s another weekend full of events happening Kansas City! And it’s going to be a nice, hot weekend, so get out and enjoy your summer, even if it’s just relaxing by the pool!

Those who enjoy a nice glass of wine or a good brew may enjoy attending Independence Square’s 7th Annual Wine & Brew Walk on Friday evening. There will be over a dozen wineries and breweries for attendees to sample while strolling through the shops & eateries at Independence Square from 6-9pm. This event is a fundraiser for the beautification of Independence Square, so you can drink and do good! General admission tickets are $20 when purchased in advance or $25 at the door, there are also VIP tickets for $35 and will get you an hour early access to a special VIP area that includes a cocktail paired with hors d’oeuvres. There will also be live music to be enjoyed at the event and a couple of after parties at Courthouse Exchange and Diamond Bowl.

One of the family friendly events happening this weekend will be night 1 of the Summer Movie Series at Zona Rosa. Friday night, Citizens Bank & Trust will be hosting a free drive-in movie in their parking lot – this week they will be showing Zootopia (great movie if you haven’t seen it yet). Since there is a limited amount of parking they suggest bringing lawn chairs and/or blankets. The movie will start at dusk, around 8:30pm, and there will a variety of children’s activities prior to the movie starting.

This Friday and Saturday is one of Kansas City’s annual music concerts – 2017 Jazz in the Woods. From 5:30-10pm on both Friday & Saturday night you can head out to Corporate Woods Founder’s Park to enjoy some great jazz music. In addition to the music, there will also be a beer garden, food & drinks, merch for sale, and corporate sponsors will have booths as well. This is also a great event to attend because 100% of the net proceeds go to local children’s charities.

For you lovers of vintage and handmade goods, you might be interested in the Vintage Market Days KC Area Summer Event at MCC – Longview. Vendors will be selling original art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, home décor, outdoor furnishings, and more at the market Friday through Sunday; which will be open 10am-5pm on Friday & Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at the event and grant you re-entry access for the market for the following days, so Friday tickets are $10 and get you in all 3 days, and tickets purchased on Saturday & Sunday are $5. The market will be held outdoors at the college so make sure to wear sensible shoes!

Who doesn’t like a good inflatable obstacle course at carnivals? Even adults can have fun on these things! Well you can have a ton of fun this Saturday morning at the Insane Inflatable 5K happening at the Kansas Speedway. This 5K is sure to be a hit with the whole family as the race includes about 10 huge inflatable obstacles to run & jump across. Tickets are still available at the link above for $65 for GA or $100 for an All Access pass.

This Saturday at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art will be the Juneteenth Celebration. Juneteenth is short for June nineteenth and is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. This is a free festival filled with music, literary arts, entertainment and education. The event will be from 10am-4pm throughout the museum. Parking with free shuttle service is located at the Kauffman Gardens.

Johnson County Parks & Recreation will be celebrating the opening of their brand new community center dedicated to the arts – the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center. Their GRAND Opening Celebration will be Saturday 9:30am to 5pm and is jammed packed with performances, demonstrations, and drop-in classes for art & dance (follow the link above to see the full schedule). This is of course a free event open to the public and is a great opportunity to check out this new community resource.

As a dog lover myself, I love that there are more and more dog-friendly and dog centered events popping up to enjoy with your furry family members. This weekend is one of the classic KC dog events – the 2017 Dog N Jog at the Country Club Plaza. They are celebrating 30 years of this great event that raises money for The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City. This early morning event that starts at 7am and is over by 10:30am will have a 2-mile and 1-mile run, a 1-mile walk, a wiener dog dash, plus pet vendors, agility performances, pet photos, dog contests, prizes, and more. You can still register here online or you can register at the event if you show up early.

One of the best parts of Kansas City’s beloved City Market is all of the buskers (street performers that entertain for tips) performing on the sidewalks all around the market. The City Market will be celebrating these performers this Sunday at the City Market Busker Festival from 9am-1pm. This free festival will feature performances from aerial arts, acrobatics, stunts, fire twirling, live music, and more! There will also be an activity station set up by Scraps KC where kids can create their own musical instruments to start their own busking acts.
