It’s Independence Day weekend! And there are a ton of great events happening in Kansas City to help you celebrate your freedom! But remember – no Roman candle fights, fireworks are dangerous!

All this weekend, actually starting on Thursday, will be the Parkville 4th of July Celebration. The real celebration will be on Independence Day but the carnival & vendors will be open Thursday evening through Monday, open 6-10pm on the weekdays and 12-10pm on Saturday & Sunday. Tuesday will be jammed packed with activities, including: a pancake breakfast, parade, live music, a skydiving exhibition, and of course, fireworks! Parkville’s fireworks display is amongst Kansas City’s best displays – it’s scheduled to begin at 9:30pm. You can find the schedule to this free, family-friendly event at the link above.

In addition to the other festivities in Parkville this weekend, there will also be Final Friday Fest at Main Street in downtown Parkville. The shops downtown will be open until 8pm, plus there will be live music and a variety of other activities.

Also on Friday evening will be Parked at Stump Park in Shawnee Mission. This event will be packed with fun for the whole family! There will be food trucks, live music, fireworks, bounce houses, and more! Make sure to pack your lawn chairs & blankets to enjoy the music and fireworks. The event will start at 5:30pm and wrap up at 9:30pm.

Who doesn’t love going to the zoo? (except maybe the person that gets stuck with pulling the kiddos along in the wagon) This holiday weekend the Kansas City Zoo will be thanking those who have served or are currently serving with free admission to the zoo Saturday through Tuesday for Red, White & Zoo. Their families will also receive $1 off admission price. And all attendees of Red, White & Zoo can enjoy $1 hot dogs, chips, beverages and bomb pops, available just outside Helzberg Penguin Plaza from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Another favorite KC fireworks show every year is put on by Worlds of Fun. And they actually put on their Celebrate America firework displays for 4 nights, Saturday through Tuesday, every night at 10pm.

Another annual favorite is Booms and Blooms at Powell Gardens. This year the event will be on Saturday starting at 2pm. Tour the new exhibition Gardens of Myth, cool off in the Fountain Garden, enjoy hands-on activities and then find your favorite spot on the lawn and spread your blanket and enjoy the musical stylings of the Lee’s Summit Symphony and the wares of various vendors as you wait for the show! Fireworks begin at 9:00 p.m.

Another great family-friendly event this weekend is the Spirit of America Celebration at Recreation Park in Raymore Saturday, July 1. Admission is FREE! Bring some chairs or a blanket and enjoy a car show at 4 p.m., food trucks, kid activities, live music by Boomerz at 7 p.m., and a fireworks show at 9:30!

And finally, probably the largest 4th of July celebration in Kansas City is KC Riverfest. KC Riverfest will be offering an evening full of fun with entertainment across 3 stages (2 music stages & 1 with “wrasslin'”), over a dozen food trucks, beverage stands (yep, beer will be sold), children’s activities, and the “Best Fireworks Show in the Region”. Admission to this event is $5 at the gate and free for children 12 & under, and it is cash only.

Coming Up Next Weekend:

7/7 – The Teddy Bear Picnic KC at the Kansas City Museum

7/7 – USO Style Dance at Union Station

7/8 – Outdoor Movie – Rogue One at The Village at Briarcliff
