Well the kids are back in school and it’s back to the school year routine – but that doesn’t mean the fun should stop with summer break! Here’s what’s happening this weekend in Kansas City to help you have some fun!
It’s important to experience different cultures than that of your own but sometimes that can be a difficult thing if you can’t travel to other countries. But this weekend you have the opportunity to experience more than 60 different cultures all in one place! Friday through Sunday is the Ethnic Enrichment Festival 2017 at Swope Park. These groups will be selling their native foods and crafts, as well as performing ethnic music and dances. The festival will be on Friday from 6-10pm, Saturday 12-10pm, and Sunday 12-6pm; tickets are only $5 for adults and children 12 & under are free (parking is free too!). It will be a great weekend to learn about other cultures right here in Kansas City!
Another festival happening this weekend is Parkville Days at English Landing Park. Parkville Days will be bringing the fun & good times with live music, a carnival, food & drinks (including a beer garden), a parade, family entertainment, and arts & crafts. This is a free festival that will be going on Friday 6-10pm, Saturday 10am-10pm (the pancake breakfast will be from 7am-11pm), and Sunday 11am-6pm (the River Run 5K/10K start at 7am, there’s a free yoga session at 9am, and the parade starts at 10am). Follow the link above to find the full schedule of all of the events & entertainment.
If you’re in the mood to shop for some unique items then you are in luck this weekend! The Market Beautiful Kansas City 2017 will be setting up shop at Union Station this Friday and Saturday. This market will be bringing together the best vendors of vintage and handmade items from across the country, all in one place! And there will also be live music by A.J Young and Heath Church, food trucks, a beer garden on Friday night, sweet treats, haircuts and straight razor shaves by Buffalo Mane Barber Shop, beauty services by Hello Lovely, kids activities, jewelry and health/wellness workshops by The Pink Moose and Whiskey and Bone, FREE DIY furniture paint and upholstery demo by The Pink Daisy, and MUCH more. Get a jump on what’s available by shopping Friday evening from 5-8pm or shop Saturday from 10am-5pm. Friday tickets include admission to shop Friday & Saturday and complimentary drink and cost $20, Saturday only tickets cost $6 – both can be purchased here.
There’s also a fun 5K happening this Saturday night. The Rock the Stockyards 5K at will be Saturday night, the race starts at 7:30pm, at Stockyards Brewing Co located in the Stockyards District of the West Bottoms. This 5K will be followed by a post race concert along with food and drinks to help celebrate! Registration information can be found here.
Saturday evening from 6-10:30pm is the Kemper Museum Third Annual Block Party and it features music, food trucks, exhibition tours, family activities, a Museum Shop trunk show, and an outdoor movie to close the evening. Kansas City Art Institute will also be offering tours of their ceramic and sculpture facilities. This is a free event perfect for the whole family.
